There are approximately 20 different types of boats ( boat types ) namely trawler, tug, deck boat, dingy, lifeboat, sailboat, cuddy, pontoon, ferry, houseboat, Center Console Boat, bass boat, bay boat, bowrider, Convertible Fishing Boat, Dual console boat, catamaran, inflatable boats, utility boat & yacht.
Within those 20 boats there are other types of boats. For this discussion we'll just look at pontoons.
Pontoon boats have a history that can be traced as far back as the 11th century BC when the Chinese Zhou Dynasty used pontoons to create bridges for marching soldiers. However, it is Ambrose Weeres who is credited with inventing the modern-day pontoon boat in 1951.
A current pontoon boat consist of two aluminum toons or tubes that are filled with air, or in some cases a foam substance. These toons are designed to elevate the deck of the boat above the water. Above the toons is a deck and typically seating for 6-12 people. Seating configurations are radically different. Some folks want a pontoon boat specifically for fishing. Others want a pontoon boat for enjoying time with the family on a lake or river. While others may want a pontoon for rest and relaxation. Depending on the need, the interior of the boats can be designed with well over 100 different layouts. A layout for a fishing pontoon may have two captains chairs in the front or near the front deck to allow fisherman to fish directly off the deck. Some have fishing chairs on the back of the boat. A lounge boat may have 3-4 bench seats and 2-3 lounge seats where guest can lay down similar to an elevated bed.
Most pontoon rental boats have a 8-12 seating capacity and are designed to comfortably transport people to and from a designated location. Most aren't fast, their just designed to cruise at slow speeds. A typical pontoon rental boat will have between 40-60 hp.
Then there is the pontoon rental boat for the true water enthusiast. They want the speed of a typical speed boat, but they want the comfort of a pontoon. We have seen pontoon boats with 300-400 hp. Although this may be fun or exhilarating for a group of people, it's not the safest for the rental market.
30a Pontoon Decided to mix it up a bit. We offer a combination between big, fast, and fun. Although we'd love to put a 300 hp motor on the back of a pontoon, it's not safe for a new driver. It's also very expensive. 30a Pontoon offers a step above with all the bells and whistles, but also safe.
30a Pontoon Rental offers a 150 hp tritoon or a double decker tritoon with a water slide. Why a TRITOON? A third toon makes the boat more buoyant. Typically a tritoon sits about 4-6 inches higher off the water. This additional elevation makes the pontoon glide through the water more elegantly and increases the speed. It makes for a much more comfortable ride. The Double Decker pontoon rental is not only loads of fun, it provides a little more shade than the typical bimini top on most pontoons.
Most pontoon rental boats offer 23 foot, 50 hp pontoons. 30a Pontoon Rental boats are 28 foot, 150 hp tritoons. Again, giving you more room, speed, etc.
